Every wrestling blog and website has the top ten big men in WWE list. Everyone has an opinion on this. Therefore, I am going to give my list of the top ten best big men. Now, before I start, I want to define what I mean by big men. I have seen so many lists, and they are not consistent. I have seen Kevin Owens on lists with Yokozuna and well…I want to be clear on what a big man is to me. A big man is a wrestler that ways over 300 pounds. Or, they must be at least 6'9. If they do not currently weigh over 300 pounds, to make the list, they must have weighed over 300 pounds during a significant part of their career. Sorry Kevin Owens, you only weigh 266 pounds and are in no way a big man. A chubby man, yes. A big man, no. Without further ado…let’s get to the list…
10. Mark Henry
We are going to start out with the most recent Hall of Famer on this list. The World’s Strongest Man has left a lasting impression on the WWE Universe. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 399 pounds Mark Henry is a sight to behold. Despite his more embarrassing gimmicks, it was his 2011 “Hall of Pain” run that made Henry certified gold. Henry came so close to beating the Streak and even racked up a World Title Reign for his troubles. While other lists have him below the top ten, for me, Mark Henry cracks the top ten he is too good too athletic and too much of a good guy not to.
9. “Big Cat” Earnie Ladd
Another African American Hall of Famer and another one of my favorites. The only reason why the Big Cat is so low on my list is because I did not witness his matches live. Therefore, I do not have the same appreciation for them. However, even I know that the 6 feet 9 inches monster was something great. He had such charisma and was so tough at the same time. Watching his matches are awe-inspiring. I wish I could travel back to the early 1970s and watch his matches live to feel the electricity in the room.
8. “Big Daddy Cool” Diesel aka Kevin Nash
Okay, okay, yes, I am putting Nash on the list. First, because his negotiating revolutionized wrestling and his persona catapulted WCW to the forefront. He helped wrestlers get big paydays for years to come and masterminded himself from talent to co-booker. He was a slightly above average big man and ended his career as one of the most famous big men in the industry. Say what you want about Nash personally or even professionally in some instances…the man changed the wrestling industry. While not the agilest in the ring, he knew what gifts he had, and he used them wisely.
7. Bam Bam Bigelow
Now, Bam Bam was not one of my favorites by far. For me the Beast of the East was…He was well…just okay. I was more hyped for Luna then I was him. Her and Sherri screamed the mean and different archetype woman that I fantasized about being on the inside. However, a 400 pounder doing cartwheels and moonsaults is almost unheard of. He was a spectacular performer who helped change what it meant to be a big man. Very few big wrestlers could do what Bam Bam could do.
6. Yokozuna
Yoko…one of my favorites when I was a kid. Yokozuna was a staggering 6 feet four inches and weighed 589 pounds. He was so agile for his size…doing kicks, bonsai drops…running! All of it leaves spectators in awe as a man of his size has no business doing the things that he did. He was an attraction that could wrestle and put on a good match. He notoriously battled my favorite Bret Hart and often had one of my other favorites in his corner…Jim Cornette. For me, Yokozuna was always a win-win for me.
5. Vader
It's Time Its Time It's Vader Time!!!! The Mastodon…The Man They Call Vader…all of those were names for this behemoth. A multiple time WCW Champion Vader was the man. He made his mark in WCW, WWE and in Japan. Vader performed perfect moonsaults off the top rope while still maintaining an aggressive style that mauled his opponents. Vader was indeed one of the greats, and he began the revolution of the big man in the 90s.
4. Kane
The Devil’s Famous Demon! Of course, Kane made the list. I can’t say enough about Kane. From his debut to his numerous battles with the Undertaker, Kane is everything a big man should be. Kane is a monster that has had so much dedication to wrestling and his character it’s unbelievable. He got better and better and became a mainstay on our televisions. Kane is one of a kind. He now makes his one-off appearances to surprise us all…but don’t expect to see him any time soon because Kane is now the mayor of Knoxville County, TN.
3. Big Show
Now, just on sheer size, the Big Show has to be towards the top of the list. Big Show often hit the 500-pound mark, but after a weight loss journey, he is down to 400. Big Show is one of the few monsters left in the WWE, and his presence makes us all stand in awe. Whenever the Big Show comes to the ring fans clamor to see the giant.
2. Andre the Giant
Okay, Okay I know everyone thinks Andre is number one. However, we need to accept that Andre has been surpassed. Andre was a huge attraction across the world, and there are countless tales of Andre’s strength physically and his famous ability to out drink anyone on earth. His tales, his stories, and his legend are what keeps fans clamoring to learn more about Andre. Andre is one of a kind and has transitioned from wrestler to wrestling folklore.
1. The Undertaker
The Undertaker is the greatest big man in WWE history. We must all accept it, embrace it and appreciate it. The Undertaker may way a slim 299, but he spent most of his career between 305 and 325. The Undertaker does dives to the outside, walks the top rope and does flying clotheslines. He is so good it is ridiculous. He is my other favorite wrestler, and I just am in awe of him every time he comes to the ring. His entrance, his move set, his aura. I have been lucky to see him live at Hell in a Cell 2016…it was magical.
I am sure many people won’t agree with me…but it’s my list! LOL J
