The heading to this post seems contradictory because one
would think that an majorly stacked roster is good for business. In a way yes, it
is good for business, however, there are reasons that it is not. Here are some
of those reasons.
Talent does not make it to
pay-per-view shows
There are over 35 Superstars that should
have been on the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view this past Sunday but were for no reason at all...were missing. Whatculture did a
list of 25 superstars. Whether you think of 25, 35, or 50…the truth is that there are
too many Superstars that did not make it to the pay-per-view this past weekend.
Talent becomes dissatisfied
because they do not make it to the pay-per-view
Former Universal Champions Kevin
Owens and Finn Balor did not make the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Former WWE Champion Jinder
Mahal and Former WWE and current United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura did
not make it to the pay-per-view this past Sunday. Two-time SmackDown women’s
champion Naomi, Royal Rumble Winner Asuka and former Women’s Champion Carmella
did not make it to the pay-per-view either. Oh, and the returning Nikki Bella who is
supposed to headline Evolution did not make it to the Hell in the Cell pay-per-view because I
guess it is not important to build up her strength on the main roster or
reassert her presence in the WWE? Oh, and don’t forget former tag-team
champions the Bar and the Usos were absent from Hell in a Cell as well.
Now, of course, a good chunk of the aforementioned talent will likely not leave the
WWE. However, the truth is now more then ever...that is not certain. Cody and Brandi have shown that
couples can go to the Indys and reinvigorate themselves into wrestling
phenomena. Imagine if the Usos and Naomi entered the independent scene with
Naomi as their manager. That would be ABSOLUTELY GOLDEN! Fans would love to see the personas the trio can take on with more creative control and exposure. Remember when made the SmackDown women's championship glow and the fans went crazy for it! Exactly! The positive remarks surrounding the belt overshadowed any discipline the WWE planned on handing down to Naomi.
Imagine the Usos w/ Naomi vs. the Young Bucks…tag-team magic.

Solution
The WWE needs to figure out
a way to incorporate their entire roster so they can retain their
talent. The list of Superstars left off of Hell in the Cell can have their own separate
pay-per-view. Perhaps the WWE can keep combined brand pay-per-views but showcase
different feuds on different cards to keep all talent working. Maybe they can reinvigorate ECW or WCW to give a true battle of the companies feel. This can ensure that more talent gets a chance to shine. It is difficult,
but this is the result of WWE gobbling up talent so they are not on the
independent scene. WWE has enough inactive and underutilized talent to create
an entire separate wrestling promotion. The brand split is a start, but they
need something more. The answer may be regular all women and regular all men
pay-per-views. Maybe one each month. That may help get more talent seen.
This is a topic that needs a lot of brainstorming, however, something needs to be rectified because WWE will soon lose talent the same way the lost Cody and Neville. The WWE’s roster has so many superb performers that can thrive in the Indys…they need to give them all of their shine before it’s too late. Plus…they can afford it.
