CM Punk Situation Shows The Elite Should Not be EVPs

Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, and Kenny Omega (The Elite) serve as AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents. This was initially part of AEW’s appeal. Fans and wrestlers felt that they would have a unique voice because wrestlers were helping to run the company. However, several former wrestling executive-level personnel warned that this would eventually become a problem. The naysayers were right.

It has long been rumored that The Elite has had backstage issues with other wrestlers. This would mean that The Elite’s backstage issue with CM Punk is not a singular incident. It has been alleged by several in the wrestling business that The Elite pushed Cody Rhodes out of AEW and that The Elite has done their part in hindering the growth and success of FTR.
The problem is that The Elite has corporate power over their competition. As an analogy, this is equivalent to The McMahons having an EVP role in AEW. Do you think the McMahons would book Dynamite to beat Raw? Even if the McMahons were that generous, do you think Triple H would make Tony Khan look strong in their weekly battle? No, this is a laughable concept. But that is what AEW talent are dealing with, and the overall wrestling community needs to be honest about the issues here.

CM Punk has had issues in WWE and with other wrestlers, so it is easy to brand Punk as difficult to work with and miserable. That is the easiest option. The tougher option is to look at this situation with a critical eye.

While others may not speak against The Elite due to NDAs, worries about their position on the Card, or a lack of desire to rock the boat, anyone that knows anything about CM Punk knows that he does not mind rocking the boat. Punk has the AEW World Title and is a major name. Punk has the voice, hence the voice of the voiceless, to express his unhappiness with The Elite. While many don’t agree with how Punk voiced his issues, any non-biased party would have to admit that he is right. The grievances that he stated are legitimate grievances. There is a problem The Elite being EVPs.

Expecting The Elite to treat their competition better than they treat themselves is asking them to be Saints. Kenny Omega wants to be the AEW World Champion, and the Young Bucks want to be considered the best tag team in the world. It is not even logical to think that The Elite want FTR, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, or any else to be bigger names than them. That isn’t special to them, it is how humans are, especially professional wrestlers.
The Elite should not be EVPs. It is time for AEW to relieve them of their duties as EVPs and create a management structure of non-biased individuals. Otherwise, chaos will always run rapid in the AEW locker room.

SummerSlam 1988 – Since we are just a few weeks away from SummerSlam 2012, I believe it is only appropriate to take a look at the very first one.

Long before I was born, okay two years before I was born, but long before I was thought of I’m sure, there was the great SummerSlam 1988. This is the historic night that set the precedent for the subsequent 22 almost 23 SummerSlams. What were the matches on that night? I’m glad you asked! The British Bulldogs (The late Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) vs. The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond), this tag team match ended in a draw. Okay Answer for 1000 points, who are the Fabulous Rougeaus? Don’t worry I’ll wait. Buzz!!! The Fabulous Rougeaus were a tag team, duh! They were in the WWE for a short time but Jacques went on to become one half of the very popular Quebecers. Okay semi-popular Quebecers. But hey they were three time WWE tag team champions, three more than the Rockers. But in comparison to popularity…I guess championships really don’t matter *shrugs shoulders*. The late Bad News Brown defeated Ken Patera. Both of these wrestlers won competitive ...

The Undertaker vs. Triple H - WWE Super Show-Down Results and Grades #SSD #WWE

HBK came down to the ring first. The fans clamored to get pictures of HBK...to be honest I would be too. Shawn is still in great shape, now he is the heartbreak grandpa. HHH came out next with a mask on but without the fanfare I expected. He came to the ring pretty fast and it was a pretty basic HHH entrance. He does have new ring gear which is nice. The Melbourne crowd loved HHH. Kane then came to the ring. I love how his name shows up when he walks to the ring it's pretty cool. The Undertaker's entrance of course was epic. All you saw were phones everywhere as fans attempted to snap pictures of the Deadman. The Undertaker looked great in his entrance and brought presence and prestige to the night. (Except for the gray on the sides...Undertaker I never want to see a another gray hair on your head). Fans complain about the older wrestlers taking the spotlight but the Undertaker's presence gives a PPV that extra push that makes it a classic. The match was no disq...
