Survivor Series Rewind

Going along with this month's pay-per-view, Survivor Series, let's divulge more into the Undertaker's greatest Survivor Series moments. As many WWE fans know, especially Undertaker fans, the Undertaker is known for taking long absences from the company. His hiatus' can last from 6 months to over a year. Hey the man likes to vacation. The Undertaker's showmanship is unparallelled and he makes the most extravagant exits...Kanye West could really learn a thing or two. Due to the Undertaker's long hiatus' from the squared circle there is often a "Return of the Undertaker."

 History of the Match
But with that being said, let's examine one of my favorite Undertaker Returns. Survivor Series 1994 took place on Wednesday, November 23, 1994. Wittle baby Brittney was sitting in her living room eating her fruity pebbles anxiously awaiting the pay-per-view to begin, (laugh out loud). But seriously, I have every WWE Pay-per-view from the 90s recorded on VHS.  Anyway, back to the story, the main event for the 1994 Survivor Series was a casket match between the Undertaker and Yokozuna. This is a rematch from the casket match the Undertaker and Yokozuna had at Royal Rumble 1994. At the Royal Rumble, Mr. Fuji had over ten wrestlers come to the ring to try and stop the Undertaker. At the time we all thought they had succeeded. But, at the end of the match, Undertaker appeared on the titantron and stated "I will not rest in peace." REWIND!!! I mean honestly this is the best exit I have ever seen, it gives me chills every time I see it. Performers around the world could learn from the intensity and commitment of his speech.

The Undertaker initially returned at Summer Slam 1995 in the famous Undertaker vs. Undertaker match. The Undertaker appeared in his new ring attire trimmed in purple rather than gray. [Side note: I didn't know purple was a masculine color? No Judgment.] The Undertaker is also noticeably slimmer, paler and has more tattoos. I guess he spent his 7 months off at the tattoo parlor.

To allow a fair match Chuck Norris is brought as a special outside referee. His role is to keep the order and prevent other superstars from coming to the ring to interfere like they did at the Royal Rumble.

The Details of the Match
In this casket match the Undertaker takes on the Japanese Sumo Wrestler Yokozuna, a.k.a. Rodney, and who is is also Samoan and the Rock's cousin but shhh we will keep that between us. The Undertaker built a "double deep double wide" casket for Yoko...anyone else vaguely offended here? Anyway, the Yokozuna is led to the ring by that evil Mr. Fuji and Jim Cornette, and anyone that knows Mr. Fuji, knows he always has something up his sleeve, just look at Survivor Series 1988. As the Undertaker is proving his dominance in the ring...King Kong Bundy and Bam Bam Bigelow came down to the ring in a unconvincing attempt to challenge Chuck Norris. Combined these two weigh over 800 pounds and couldn't take out Chuck Norris?? That is neither here nor there. As Norris is preoccupied with Bundy and Bigelow,  Irwin R. Schyster (I.R.S.) sneaks from under the ring in and attempt to destroy the Undertaker, and repeat the events of the previous Royal Rumble.  As Yoko attempts to close the casket, the Undertaker says "not today" lol jk but he does rise from the casket. But the best part of this match is when Jeff Jarrett attempts to come down to the ring and Chuck Norris kicks him and knocks him down....O.M.G....INSTANT REPLAY INSTANT REPLAY!!!!

Meanwhile in the ring...the Undertaker is making short work of the massive Yokozuna and finally gets Yokozuna in the casket. He also takes the Japanese flag from Mr. Fuji and breaks the stick the Japanese flag is on. Considering Yokozuna is really Samoan, I don't know that he cared too much about the destruction of the Japanese flag, but hey maybe it's me. Of course, the Undertaker slams the casket shut, wins the match and gains retribution.

SummerSlam 1988 – Since we are just a few weeks away from SummerSlam 2012, I believe it is only appropriate to take a look at the very first one.

Long before I was born, okay two years before I was born, but long before I was thought of I’m sure, there was the great SummerSlam 1988. This is the historic night that set the precedent for the subsequent 22 almost 23 SummerSlams. What were the matches on that night? I’m glad you asked! The British Bulldogs (The late Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) vs. The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond), this tag team match ended in a draw. Okay Answer for 1000 points, who are the Fabulous Rougeaus? Don’t worry I’ll wait. Buzz!!! The Fabulous Rougeaus were a tag team, duh! They were in the WWE for a short time but Jacques went on to become one half of the very popular Quebecers. Okay semi-popular Quebecers. But hey they were three time WWE tag team champions, three more than the Rockers. But in comparison to popularity…I guess championships really don’t matter *shrugs shoulders*. The late Bad News Brown defeated Ken Patera. Both of these wrestlers won competitive ...

HBK came down to the ring first. The fans clamored to get pictures of HBK...to be honest I would be too. Shawn is still in great shape, now he is the heartbreak grandpa. HHH came out next with a mask on but without the fanfare I expected. He came to the ring pretty fast and it was a pretty basic HHH entrance. He does have new ring gear which is nice. The Melbourne crowd loved HHH. Kane then came to the ring. I love how his name shows up when he walks to the ring it's pretty cool. The Undertaker's entrance of course was epic. All you saw were phones everywhere as fans attempted to snap pictures of the Deadman. The Undertaker looked great in his entrance and brought presence and prestige to the night. (Except for the gray on the sides...Undertaker I never want to see a another gray hair on your head). Fans complain about the older wrestlers taking the spotlight but the Undertaker's presence gives a PPV that extra push that makes it a classic. The match was no disq...
