A Review of A Month of Mondays Podcast - Issue 2 – The Before All In One

Review of A Month of Mondays
Issue 2 – The Before All In One

First, let me explain that I am an avid podcast enthusiast. I listen to an array of podcasts including podcasts for meditation, mindfulness and career development. However, I specifically enjoy wrestling podcasts. Well, because I am a wrestling nerd! Also, wrestling podcasts are addicting! I personally am a proud Cult of Cornette member and I never miss a Jim Cornette podcast episode; I even listen to other podcasts whenever Jim is a guest.

A Month of Mondays actually reminds me of Jim Cornette’s podcast. A Month of Monday’s is very fluid. The hosts often analyze the WWE and the Indy scene. They look at the differences, similarities and problems faced by the WWE and the Indy scene; while also discussing how both the WWE and the Indy scene are affecting the world of professional wrestling. (They do throw a little Jim Cornette shade…but I forgive them J). I love that they cut to audio to give reference to what they are discussing. Because podcasts are not visual it is very easy to get lost during the conversation if the listener is not in the heads of those having the conversation. Their intertwining of audio and conversation makes it easier for the listener to keep up.

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. At about the ten-minute mark they discuss Kevin Owens’ storyline quitting WWE and whether this storyline would in some way tie into All In. Of course, in retrospect, we already know the answer as All In has passed. However, their ideas and speculation took me back to the days when wrestling was unpredictable. Back when one day your favorite wrestler would be on Monday Night Raw then the next week he or she would have jumped ship to WCW Nitro. Gone are the days of originality and surprise and we are now in the days of nostalgia and predictability. This discussion and speculation remind the listener of a time when wrestling…specifically, the WWE was unpredictable.

While there are podcasts from some of our favorites like Jim Cornette, Chris Jericho and X-Pac (all three I listen to on a regular basis), A Month of Mondays is a part of the Indy scene of podcasts. The show has an organic feel with a freshness and originality in which they speak to the ideas and thoughts of the everyday wrestling fan. The hosts have set topics and timeframes which gives the show formatting and direction. They discuss different angles and different ideas like “what pay-per-view from the past do you wish you could attend?” This question even got me, a wrestling blogger, thinking. For me, I would love to have attended Canadian Stampede. Here, The Hart Foundation not only won the tag match they also had a Hart Family celebration that gave me as a fan that feel good family moment. I watch it over and over to hear the pop from the crowd and enjoy the feeling I get when I see all of the Hart Family cram into the ring.

A Month of Mondays is definitely a podcast to listen to. The two hosts take you on a ride through professional wrestling both past and present. It is very honest and truthful and brings up ideas and sentiments that avid everyday wrestling fans alike would appreciate.

Make sure you tune in to their return episode in November!

SummerSlam 1988 – Since we are just a few weeks away from SummerSlam 2012, I believe it is only appropriate to take a look at the very first one.

Long before I was born, okay two years before I was born, but long before I was thought of I’m sure, there was the great SummerSlam 1988. This is the historic night that set the precedent for the subsequent 22 almost 23 SummerSlams. What were the matches on that night? I’m glad you asked! The British Bulldogs (The late Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) vs. The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond), this tag team match ended in a draw. Okay Answer for 1000 points, who are the Fabulous Rougeaus? Don’t worry I’ll wait. Buzz!!! The Fabulous Rougeaus were a tag team, duh! They were in the WWE for a short time but Jacques went on to become one half of the very popular Quebecers. Okay semi-popular Quebecers. But hey they were three time WWE tag team champions, three more than the Rockers. But in comparison to popularity…I guess championships really don’t matter *shrugs shoulders*. The late Bad News Brown defeated Ken Patera. Both of these wrestlers won competitive ...

The Undertaker vs. Triple H - WWE Super Show-Down Results and Grades #SSD #WWE

HBK came down to the ring first. The fans clamored to get pictures of HBK...to be honest I would be too. Shawn is still in great shape, now he is the heartbreak grandpa. HHH came out next with a mask on but without the fanfare I expected. He came to the ring pretty fast and it was a pretty basic HHH entrance. He does have new ring gear which is nice. The Melbourne crowd loved HHH. Kane then came to the ring. I love how his name shows up when he walks to the ring it's pretty cool. The Undertaker's entrance of course was epic. All you saw were phones everywhere as fans attempted to snap pictures of the Deadman. The Undertaker looked great in his entrance and brought presence and prestige to the night. (Except for the gray on the sides...Undertaker I never want to see a another gray hair on your head). Fans complain about the older wrestlers taking the spotlight but the Undertaker's presence gives a PPV that extra push that makes it a classic. The match was no disq...
