5. Let’s start with the obvious, this is the 70th
Anniversary of the NWA!!!
The NWA is short for National Wrestling Alliance and was
founded in 1948. Prior to the formation of the NWA, there were regional
wrestling promotions who all claimed to have a world championship, however,
none of them had real “world” classification; as many of them had little to no
connection to other regions outside of their territory. The NWA was formed to
create the true “world” champion. This would be cross-territorial with the “world”
champion being recognized all the way from the Midwest to Japan. This
revolutionary idea started the basis for the nationalized and world-wide
wrestling scene. The NWA is the predecessor to many fans’ favorite wrestling
promotions. Therefore, a 70th-anniversary celebration should have the support
from true wrestling fans in appreciation of the worldwide and national
wrestling scene.
4. You will get the chance to see and meet former NWA
champions.
The history encompassed within the NWA is unprecedented.
Former NWA World Heavyweight Champions include Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Lou
Thesz, Harley Race, Kerry Von Erich, Sting, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Jeff
Jarrett, and AJ Styles. That is a who’s who of the wrestling business. It has
been confirmed that former NWA World Heavyweight Champions Jeff Jarrett and
Colt Cabana will be there. There will probably be countless other former NWA Champions
in attendance. Expect the NWA 70 to be the place you will be able to see and
maybe even meet some of your wrestling heroes both past and present.
3. The NWA is on a popularity surge.
With the success of All In and Cody winning the NWA
Heavyweight Title at All In there is new attention and interest in the NWA.
Thus, titles are being reactivated. A New NWA National Champion will be crowned
at the event. The NWA announced that they will be having a tournament to crown
the new champion. There will be 8 competitors who will compete in two four on
four elimination matches. The two winners will advance to a one on one
encounter to crown the new NWA National Champion. The 8 entrants are Colt
Cabana, Scorpio Sky, Jay Bradley, Sam Shaw, Ricky Starks, Sammy Guevara, Mike
Parrow, and Willie Mack. Also, one of the greats Jazz will be defending her NWA
Women’s Title. Jazz has been NWA women’s champion for 745 days; putting her in
the category of some of wrestling’s elite. All In helped bring popularity and
interest back to the NWA. Expect the NWA to put on a barnburner of a show to
impress fans.
2. Expect classic wrestling matches.
The NWA is known for its traditional wrestling style. While
there will likely be something there for new school wrestling fans, the NWA
will keep this event classic and will speak to traditional wrestling fans that
love some good ‘ole wrestling; not sports entertainment. Cody is defending the
NWA World Heavy Championship aka the "Ten Pounds of Gold" against Nick Aldis in a
two out of three falls match. Expect his match to harken back to vintage
wrestling styles and exceed expectations. The entire card is expected
to be filled with solid matches that will satisfy fans’ thirst for good ‘ole wrestling.
1.
JIM CORNETTE IS RETURNING
TO COLOR COMMENTARY!
Yes,
Jim Cornette is returning to color commentary. This will give the matches on
the NWA 70 card that true wrestling vibe. Jim's familiar voice will sing to true
wrestling fans and will remind listeners of the old school NWA, WCW and WWE days. For
everyone that says they miss the old school wrestling days; this is their chance
to get their fill. Anyone that is a fan of Jim Cornette knows…he WILL
ENTERTAIN.
The NWA has just started rolling out matches and
announcements but so far NWA 70 is something to be beyond excited about. The
event will take place on October 21, 2018 and will be available on PPV.
